First Grade News
December 12, 2008

First graders read Trucks and Communities, studied words with g as /j/ and c as /s/, sort u words, classified information in a story, and made an announcement. Students wrote a list of community helpers, a sentence containing two homonyms, and interview questions. First graders also worked with money, story problems, related addition and subtraction sentences and fact families.

There will be no newsletter next week but I will still plan to send homework home though.

We will have a student gift exchange at our Christmas party. Girls should bring a gift for a girl, boys need to bring a gift for a boy. Gifts should cost $2.50 - $3.00.

We visited Country View Assisted Living Center on Thursday. Students made Christmas cards and read books to the residents there. Thank you to Emma’s mom and Kaylee’s mom for helping out with this field trip!

Each first grader interviewed Mr. Leighton this week. All students did a marvelous job with this assignment. I am so proud of your child!
